Writing prompts are a very popular writing exercise, with many writers making lists of writing prompts to experiment with. Writing prompts could be seen as inorganic, as in they don’t necessarily spark a writing streak, but they could spin into a good writing routine. If you’re planning to write using writing prompts, here are some tips:
#1 Don’t let the prompts intimidate you. At first, it would be tough to get an idea of what to write from a tiny prompt. But it slowly comes with practice. The more you write using prompts, the more readily ideas will spring from your head
#2 Approach a prompt with your own idea. Even if the prompt may be specific, try to approach it with your idea instead of going along with what the prompt says. Look at the big picture and try to imagine what mood/feeling the prompt evokes. It will give you a lot of space to work with instead of being mowed down by specificity.
#3 Don’t keep a word limit. When you write using a prompt, don’t think about setting a word limit. Write as much as you want, or as little as you want; it’s all about how much creativity you would want to employ in a piece of writing.
