The title sounds like something out of a fictional app where you meet book editors, but trust me, it’s not. Apart from the usual criterias of a book editor, there are some things that would help you realise how compatible you and your book editor are. I won’t go into the technicalities of them always being available to solve your doubts, follow their deadlines and help you flesh out your story in the best manner possible. I have my own list of what makes my book editor and I compatible.
- We bond over a shared love of birds and cats. Oxymoronic as the two terms might sound, we love talking about the stupid things that these two species indulge in. Be it falling off a cupboard or flying straight into a window, our stomachs hurt with laughter when we discuss this. It does not necessarily have to be birds and cats for everyone. It can be serial killers, travel, aesthetics, philosophy, or something as simple as coffee. Point is, a better relationship can be cultivated with your book editor if you both have something in common that you both absolutely adore. It fills in those awkward gaps in conversation and bridges the communication gap a lot better than just professional talk.
